Share Market Highlights: Nifty closes 100 pts lower, Sensex settles near 65100; Adani Ports up 4.6%, ITC tanks 2%

Share Market News Today | Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices Highlights: On Thursday, domestic benchmarks NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex ended in negative territory. The Sensex closed down by 0.6% at 65,151.02, while the Nifty 50 shed 100 points to finish at 19,365.25. Bank Nifty settled under 43,900, down 0.13%, however, Nifty PSU Bank jumped up 1.43%. Nifty Oil & Gas settled 0.83% lower, Nifty FMCG gave up 0.89%, Nifty IT ended down 0.49%. In the broader markets, Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.25% while Nifty Smallcap added 0.14% despite the benchmark. “The mounting influence of weak global cues hindered the domestic market's ability to recoup, resulting in sustained selling pressure. The release of Fed minutes unveiled a divided stance among its members regarding the necessity of additional rate hikes, contrasting the previously anticipated rate pause. Concurrently, the Indian rupee experienced a decline due to the dollar index surpassing 103.5; however, likely intervention from the RBI offered a degree of support. Moreover, the escalation of US bond yields is expected to limit the influx of foreign investments into the Indian market, further impacting market dynamics.”

Domestic indices NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex closed in the red on Thursday. Sensex settled lower by 0.6% at 65,151.02, Nifty 50 gave up 100 points to close at 19,365.25.

JSW Energy stocks declined by more than 3% in the market after the promoter, JSW Investments, sold a 1.28% stake amounting to Rs 717.57 crore through open market operations on August 16.

JK Cement stock price tanked 2% today to Rs 3,078.6 after the company’s consolidated net profit declined 29.5% on-year to Rs 114.7 crore. However, following the announcement of its first fiscal quarterly earnings, the scrip has tanked 6% to touch lows of Rs 3,060 apiece on Wednesday from Friday's closing price, before the results were announced.

The share price of Adani Power jumped 3.08% in trade to trade at Rs 288.5 apiece on Thursday as GQG Partners and other investors bought an 8.1% stake in the firm for a total consideration of $1.1 billion on Wednesday.

“Bank Nifty has closed in the negative for the fifth consecutive trading session. It has reached the 20-week moving average and hence the fall may not be severe from current levels. The trend is still negative, however oversold, and we can observe divergence on the hourly charts which indicates that a pullback is possible over the next few trading sessions. The pullback can stretch higher till 44,400 – 44,500.”

Wall Street ended lower on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve's minutes showed central bank officials were divided over the need for more interest rate hikes at their last meeting, according to Reuters. S&P 500 gave up 0.76%, the Nasdaq Composite crashed 1.15%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.52%.
