Vivo’s X100 series is here to challenge Samsung’s smartphone zoom camera dominance

Vivo has launched its flagship X100 series in India today, per schedule. There are two phones. While the premier X100 Pro takes on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra as Vivo’s most powerful zoom camera smartphone ever, the X100 brings a competitive mobile photography experience to a relatively more affordable price tag, sort of like the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. You get a trio of high-resolution sensors in both smartphones and MediaTek’s fastest chip fueling the package, which is also IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.

The X100 series is kicking off what is set to be a “packed” January 2024 with some of the biggest smartphone brands from Samsung to OnePlus lining up to launch some of their most high-end phones in the market. And Vivo is starting off with a bang no less. So, without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about the X100 series.

The X100 Pro comes in sole 16GB/512GB variant for Rs 89,999 in black.

Both phones are available to pre-order starting from today, January 4, with sales pegged to start from January 11.

For the most part, the X100 and X100 Pro are virtually identical. Basking in the same glass and metal sandwich design with IP68 rating, both phones have the same 6.78-inch 1.5K resolution, 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness and in-display fingerprint scanner for biometrics. Under the hood, both the X100 and X100 Pro are rocking the same Dimensity 9300 with “all big Cores architecture” while running the show is Android 14 (with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 14 on top) software.

Where they differ most is in the camera department. The X100 Pro has a triple camera setup which is headlined by a 50-megapixel 1-inch-type IMX989 VCS bionic sensor paired to a 23mm f/1.75 aperture lens with optical image stabilisation. Then there’s the 50-megapixel 15mm ultrawide with autofocus and another 50-megapixel 100mm periscope telephoto certified by ZEISS APO for 4.3x optical zoom. ZEISS T* coating and lens effects are your usual suspects even as Vivo gives you the widest range of focal lengths possible on this phone.

The X100 has a 50-megapixel 1/ 1.49-inch IMX920 VCS bionic sensor paired to an f/1.57 aperture lens with optical image stabilisation and a 64-megapixel f/2.57 aperture telephoto for 3x optical zoom. It has the same 50-megapixel ultrawide as the pro model. Both phones have the same 32-megapixel front camera.

Elsewhere, the X100 Pro has a 5,400mAh battery with 120W fast wired and 50W wireless charging while the X100 has a bit smaller 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast wired charging only.
