Devotees have bid adieu to Ganpati Bappa in many parts of the country. Carrying idols of different shapes and sizes, they have begun visiting nearby water bodies to immerse Lord Ganesha.Popularly known as Vinayak Chaturthi, the Hindu festival is commemorated with full zeal and ‘josh’ in different regions of India. The festival commenced on Tuesday (September 19). It will conclude on Thursday (September 28), the last day for Ganesh Visarjan.The festival marks the birth of the Hindu God Ganesha, the God of wisdom. In addition to giant pandals, people install the clay statue of Lord Ganesh in their homes. Observances include chanting of Vedic hymns and prayers. Many also observe fasting.Ganesh Chaturthi ends on the tenth day (after the start). The idol is carried in a public procession and then submerged in a nearby river or sea.
