The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently overseeing the construction of multiple Metro lines in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with significant progress being made, The Indian Express reported.Progress report of Mumbai Metro lines

The report added that all Metro lines, except for the city’s first underground Metro Line 3 (Colaba-SEEPZ), managed by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) under the supervision of MMRDA, are advancing steadily.

Metro Line 2B

This Mumbai Metro line is expected to generate about 3,380 new jobs in the coming years. As per the report, this elevated metro line, covering 23.643 km from D N Nagar, Andheri West, to Mandale, Mankhurd, with 20 stations, has reached 60% completion. Contracts for railway substation construction and essential electrical work have been awarded, and six train sets have been received for deployment. Its expected deadline for completion is June 2025.

Metro Lines 4 and 4A

Metro Lines 4 and 4A, spanning 35.2 km from Wadala to Kasarvadavali, Thane, and extending to Gaimukh, Ghodbunder Road, have achieved 65% completion in civil work. The anticipated completion date for this elevated Metro line is mid-2025.

Metro Line 5

The initial phase of Metro Line 5, covering 11.8 km between Thane and Bhiwandi, with six stations, is nearing completion at an impressive progress rate of 82.72%. The deadline for the entire line is set for December 2025.

Metro Line 5 Phase 2

Approved last year, the second phase of Metro Line 5, which will run from Bhiwandi to Kalyan, will feature a 3-kilometre underground section between Dhamankar Naka and Temghar in Bhiwandi, contributing to the line’s total length of 11.8 kilometre.

Metro Line 6

Metro Line 6, an elevated route spanning 15.31 km from Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala Complex) to Vikhroli with 13 elevated stations, has achieved an overall civil work completion progress of approximately 73.25%. The anticipated completion date for this project is December 2024.

Metro Line 7A

An extension of the operational Metro Line 7, the Metro Line 7A’s progress stands at 24.24%. This line incorporates both a 0.924 km elevated stretch and a 2.5 km underground twin-tunnel system connecting Andheri East and CSMIA. The tunneling is slated for completion by December 2024, with commercial operations expected in 2025 after obtaining all safety clearances.

Metro Line 9

Extending 10.855 km as a northern extension of Metro Line 7 from Dahisar East to Mira Bhayander, Metro Line 9, featuring eight elevated stations, has reached a completion milestone of 77%. The line is expected to be operational by June 2025.

Metro Line 12

Currently, civil work tendering for Metro Line 12, stretching from Kalyan to Taloja, is ongoing, along with the concurrent process of obtaining forest clearance.
