Record-breaking success

These achievements are attributed to the continuous infrastructure updates and improvements undertaken at SVPI Airport. In a statement released by the Adani Group, which operates the airport, they emphasised that such success is a result of the dedication and hard work of all airport staff, including AAI, CISF, Immigration, Customs, airline partners, and the SVPI airport team.

Infrastructure upgrades

The operator of the airport highlighted its focus on infrastructure development, upgrade, and utilisation throughout the year. The journey began with enhancements in the domestic terminal, introducing a new security check area, expanding sitting capacity by 50%, and incorporating additional X-ray machines and metal detectors. Embracing technology for enhanced security, the introduction of new e-gates further marked progress in 2023.

Outside the domestic terminals, new drop-off and pick-up areas were developed, providing passengers with a more convenient experience. The expansion from two to six lanes, larger parking spaces, increased sitting areas, and diverse refreshment options has significantly improved the overall airport experience.

Enhancing efficiency of airport

To ensure a seamless passenger journey, domestic-to-domestic transfer and international-to-international transfer facilities were introduced. These additions contribute to reducing processing time in necessary security checks and other protocols, enhancing the overall efficiency of the airport.

Welcoming new airlines, expanding services

In terms of connectivity, Ahmedabad Airport welcomed new airlines, including Fly Bagdad and Thai AirAsia, both initiating operations during the year. Viet Jet connected two destinations in Vietnam with daily flights, Fly Bagdad operated two weekly flights to Najaf, and Thai AirAsia provided thrice-weekly flights to Don Nueang.

Furthermore, existing airlines expanded their services, introducing new sectors connecting Ahmedabad to Pantnagar, Srinagar, Diu, Jaisalmer, and Agartala via Kolkata. Durgapur became accessible via Delhi, Coimbatore via Hyderabad and Chennai, Visakhapatnam via Hyderabad, and Port Blair via Chennai. Increased frequency to Nashik, Goa-MOPA, Pune, Kolkata, and Lucknow further strengthened the airport’s network.

Focal point for international events

Ahmedabad Airport emerged as a focal point for international events like G20 meetings and the Cricket World Cup in 2023. The airport’s commitment to Gujarat’s growth story is evident through its continued focus on infrastructure upgrading and improved connectivity.

As we reflect on the past year, Ahmedabad Airport’s achievements stand as a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence, setting the stage for continued growth and success in the years to come.
