Scaler aims to achieve net profitability of  $10 million by FY25; the company achieved profit in Jul-Aug-Sep 2023  

The ed-tech platform Scaler claimed to have launched its new institute the Scaler School of Technology (SST) in Bengaluru. It claims that the new institute offers a four-year residential Undergraduate Programme (UG) in Computer Science (CS). As per the company, the first academic batch was rolled out in FY23 with 191 students. With this new school, we aim to address the outdated curriculum and pedagogy in traditional technology education and aim to foster integration with the industry. We are working on increasing the institute’s accommodation capacity by 100% by next academic year, Bhavik Rathod, head, Scaler School of Technology told FE Education. “The decision to go offline was driven by the need for a residential programme that not only imparts skills but also provides mentorship and guidance thereby focusing on soft skills, communication, teamwork and strong technical foundations,” he added.

The platform’s revenue from sales of products increased 191.1% to Rs 60.65 crore in FY22 from Rs 20.79 crore in FY21, as per regulatory filings accessed by business intelligence platform, Tofler. While the company’s net loss widened 396% to Rs 170.40 crore in FY22 from Rs 30.50 crore in FY21. “Our target is a healthy growth of up to 40%, with a strong emphasis on improving the bottom line. We aim to achieve over $10 million net profit by the end of FY25,” Abhimanyu Saxena, co-founder of InterviewBit and Scaler, said.

Moreover, the company in an email response stated, “We are cash flow positive and were profitable in the July-August-September quarter of 2023. We aim to maintain that over the next few quarters, which will lead to annual profitability.”

As per the platform, the cost of the programme is Rs 20 lakh per student for four years. At Rs 20 lakh, the components of the fee include tuition, boarding and lodging among others. It also claims to offer a one-year paid internship as part of the programme. “Our faculty consists of current or former professionals from major technology companies, ensuring our students receive industry-relevant training. This approach is motivated by the common practice among leading technology firms, which invest heavily in post-hiring training for computer science graduates,” Rathod added.

The ed-tech platform further claims to offer courses called Scaler Academy – the overall software development and engineering programme, besides Scaler DSML  which focuses on data science, data engineering and machine learning.  It claims that these online courses typically span between nine to 14 months with total fees of Rs. 3.2 lakh, each. The Platform started two online courses cumulatively typically having an average subscriber base of 19,000-20,000 annually. “These two courses are targeted at working professionals, post-completion of graduation. These courses aid in upskilling. We have seen that those professionals who had opted for either of these courses have seen an increment upto 126%  in their current salaries,” Saxena added. The platform also claims to have collaborated with 1200 companies globally as a training partner, including  Google, Amazon and Microsoft.
