Xiaomi announces HyperOS for India; roll out to begin with these devices this month

Xiaomi today announced that its “HyperOS” software will make its India debut this month with the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi Pad 6 on schedule to get the new update in the first wave. The announcement comes just a few days ahead of the company’s big Redmi Note 13 series launch event on January 4 and while it’s surely surprising to see no Note 13 on the list, it might be the case because the devices haven’t officially launched in the country yet. And so, all eyes would be on Xiaomi to make some sort of announcement around it, during the keynote.

Xiaomi shared the update on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, announcing that “HyperOS is set to make its debut in India soon with roll-out set to begin in January 2024 with “the flagship Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi Pad 6 being the first set of devices to get it, promising an all-new and improved user experience.” The last bit is another thing to take note of as HyperOS isn’t just MIUI with a different name or at least that is what Xiaomi claims.

The Xiaomi HyperOS for India announcement follows an earlier global announcement for the new software. That list is more comprehensive and pegs a Q1 2024 window for roll-out, though the Redmi Note 13 series still doesn’t figure on it, again possibly because it remains exclusive to China at the time of writing. The Note 13, Note 13 Pro, and Note 13 Pro Plus all run MIUI 14 based on Android 13 in Xiaomi’s home market and so it would be interesting to see how things pans out for the line-up once it breaks cover in global markets starting with India in the coming days.
