Google’s brand-new flagship Pixel phones for 2022, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, have officially arrived, and in India, no less. Those keeping track would know how rare that is. So, certainly there’s lots to get excited about from a Pixel phone coming to India at last context. These are the best phones that Google makes at the time of writing, which is another big thing to consider and be excited about. We are on course to review both these phones and while we do that, here’s a quick first look at the Pixel 7 Pro— the pro Pixel phone for 2022. It costs Rs 84,999 in India for a version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.2/8
This year’s Pixel phones build on the design template set by the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro from last year. Google made some big changes there, rewriting the whole Pixel look and feel, to make it more modern and also, quite unique. Since, Google never launched those phones in India, you can look at the Pixel 6a for some reference. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro look just like that with subtle differences here and there. We’ll talk just about the Pixel 7 Pro, from here.
3/8The Pixel 7 Pro is tall and made of glass. The outer frame is made of polished metal. The signature Google camera bar is also all-metal (this was made of glass in the Pixel 6 phones) and is actually a single piece joining the frame. It is very striking, very premium. There is IP68 water and dust resistance, too.
4/8On the front, you get a 6.7-inch 1440p LTPO display with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Google claims it can get up to 25 percent brighter than before. It can peak 1500 nits. HDR playback is supported. There is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. You also get face unlock in addition to an in-screen fingerprint reader for biometric authentication. This is fast and reliable.
5/8Under the hood, you get Google’s second-gen Tensor chip, aka Tensor G2. You get a slight bump in CPU and a new GPU while at the same time the Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) inside the G2 is claimed to be up to 60 percent faster and 20 percent more efficient than the outgoing chip. You get a new Tensor core and modem upgrade, too. This is paired with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This is non-expandable. Performance has been nippy, so far, but do know that just like the first Tensor, its second-gen version is also not going to blow your minds in benchmarks and at graphically-intensive gaming.
6/8The Pixel 7 Pro runs Android 13 and is guaranteed to get up to 5 years of security and 3 major OS updates.
7/8The Pixel 7 Pro comes with three cameras on the back which is a combination of a 50MP main sensor (Samsung GN1) behind an f/1.85 aperture lens, a 12MP sensor behind an f/2.2 aperture ultra-wide-angle lens (125-degrees field-of-view and autofocus which brings dedicated macro capabilities), and another 48MP sensor sitting behind an f/3.5 aperture telephoto lens for up to 5x optical zoom. Super Res Zoom is getting an update, with support for up to 30x zooming. On the front, you get a 10.8MP selfie shooter.
8/8The Pixel 7 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery and supports 30W fast wired and wireless charging. (Photo credits: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)
